Occupancy Permit
A few weeks before the project’s substantial completion, contact the building department and let them know that you want to schedule the “Occupancy Inspection.”
The inspector will come out at the scheduled date and review the construction site. If they find that the project is substantially complete and constructed in compliance with applicable building codes, they will approve the ‘Certificate of Occupancy’ or ‘Occupancy Permit.’
Not all projects pass the first time around. Depending on the kinds of issues the inspector finds, they can require corrections and re-inspect or issue a conditional approval.
