Accelerate
Finish Your Project Fast & Save Money!

You're a busy person, and your time is valuable. You don't plan to renovate again soon, and don't want to learn more than is immediately useful.

With Construct it Yourself Accelerate, you run the show, and we do the heavy lifting, so you don't spend more time than you would have anyway.

How Accelerate Works

We Plan Your Project for You

Every successful project starts with a solid plan. People who do not have time to create their project plan and Bid Package, need an objective third party to do it for them to get comparative bids. That's where we come in. During the Planning Phase we:

  • Write your detailed Scope of Work describing everything you want.
  • Create a detailed Estimate so you know what everything costs.
  • Identify ways you can maximize the return on investment.
  • Help you prioritize, strategize, and balance activities to finalize your Budget.
  • Create the schedule so you know exactly how long the work will take.
  • Deliver you a completed Project Plan that is ready for Bid.

We Negotiate with Contractors for You

Our Bidding process weeds out difficult and unscrupulous contractors, and ensures you get the most competitive prices from great contractors. We are 100% transparent and will show you the numbers, so you understand exactly what things cost. During the Bidding Phase we:

  • Interview 5x more contractors for each trade needed on your project.
  • Answer all contractor questions, after conferring with you to ensure agreement.
  • Complete a detailed Bid analysis and fairly negotiate the best prices.
  • Provide you with a detailed report with recommendations, so you get firm pricing.
  • Help you make the objective decision, so you get the best experience.
  • Issue the contract between parties and track execution.

We Manage Your Contractors with You

Construction is the most exciting phase because this is where your dream becomes real. This stage requires constant keen observation and deep understanding to avoid problems and keep contractors productive. During the Construction Phase we:

  • Ensure contracts, documents, and permits are in order before contractors start.
  • Help you observe, monitor, and communicate with contractors.
  • Meet with you regularly to discuss progress and answer questions.
  • Help resolve all issues and difficulties as they arise.
  • Enforce contractor obligations and quality control.
  • Help ensure you are financially and legally protected.

How Much Can You Save?

We priced our service to be about 75% lower than a General Contractor. In round numbers that translates to a 25% to 50% savings of the total project cost.

We cannot give you exact costs for your project without helping you first figure out the detais, but we can give you an estimate based on your budget.

Enter your project budget in the calculator on the right to estimate your total fee and compare how much you can save. While everyone's experience does vary, you will always be in charge.

We provide you with a final estimate and scope of work for modification or approval. Upon scope approval and payment of the balance, we send out the project for bid. We transparently negotiate the best prices for you, and you keep the savings. We provide recommendations for approval, and you always make the final decision before we move forward.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is this expertise worth?General Contractors commonly charge 30% to 60% of residential project budgets for project management, overhead, and profit. A project budget of $100K buys $40K to $70K in labor and materials. That means that by managing the trade contractors yourself, you are paying yourself. You'll devote a few hours per week monitoring your project. If you divide the savings by time required, even on the high side, your time is worth hundreds of dollars per hour.

We designed this system to fast-track your results and shorten the time to completion.

What is the cost of inaction?Homeowners who attempt to DIY or manage a project without the benefit of a system, industry knowledge, or realistic expectations, have projects that go over budget and take longer than planned.

It is inevitable that an amateur approach will fail in this highly orchestrated endeavor and the very savings you sought to achieve will vanish. This is why you need a system and coaching.

Will you recoup the money you spent? The industry guidance is that project owners will never recoup 100% of renovations, but that's because of the cost of General Contractor fees. With all the money you will save with Construct it Yourself, in some cases you can recoup more than 100% of your investment.

Why do you need to Construct it Yourself?Homeowners and Contractor speak in different terms and have different expectations and opposing goals. This is why projects go over budget and take too long.

Construct it Yourself eliminates the pain associated with working with contractors by giving you reliability and clear control. Construct It Yourself – is essential for any homeowner who wants their project to go smoothly and quickly. From us, you'll receive the tools needed to build your scope of work, a schedule to enforce, a budget building tool, contracts to protect you, and one-on-one guidance to communicate thoroughly and avoid mistakes.

What is expected of you?As the homeowner you’ll be the eyes, ears, and boots on the ground. You’re responsible for knowing what you want, taking measurements, and using our tools and expertise to help you plan, bid, and manage your project. Along the way, you'll communicate with contractors and be available to authorize and inspect completed work. With frequent check-ins with the Construct it Yourself team, you will never feel alone as you manage your contractors.

How much time is required? We work with homeowners investing the time and attention into homes they want to keep and enjoy. We have a 16-week course that focuses much more on the planning phase and explores options to update your home for the long haul—and we encourage you to utilize that more exhaustive program once you've moved into your new home. There, you'll have the luxury of time on your side. But we created Accelerate for speed. Depending on when you start, you can complete your project in as little as a few hours per week.

Is managing contractors' like managing people at work?If you manage people at work, then you have the skills to interact with and manage your trade contractors. What you lack in systems, tools, and specialized knowledge, Construct It Yourself provides to ensure your contractors are professionally managed.

How can you be so much less expensive than a General Contractor?Construct It Yourself (CIY) provides a cost-effective alternative to traditional general contracting by leveraging several strategic advantages.
First, we have minimal overhead. We eliminated the costs associated with maintaining a physical office and fleet of vehicles and pass these savings directly to you.
Second, we set up the contract so the owner contracts and pays the trade contractors directly so that we do not have to charge you for covering those costs.
Third, we've harnessed technology to give you user-friendly tools, processes, and support, to oversee your renovations, diminishing the need for extensive administrative or project management time, further cutting costs.
We empower you to manage multiple trade contractors, allowing for substantial savings. You completely define your project and your budget.
These factors allow us to deliver a markedly less expensive option than traditional general contracting. An attractive solution for budget-conscious renovators.

Why do you limit how many people you accept per month? Our Project Managers dedicate a significant amount of time to giving owners personal attention. To ensure every project owner recieves the highest level of service, and ensure success and maximize satisfaction. We currently limit the number of people we accept per month. We are working to expand our infrastructure to support many more people.

Do you provide Design or Drafting Services? We have connections with architects, landscape architects, interior designers, and draftspersons, who produce drawings for clients as needed. This service is only available to existing clients and may have additional costs depending on the extent of services needed. Discuss the cost with your Construction Conductor.

My wife and I were planning to remodel our home. We were terrified about the entire process because neither of us has any experience in construction remodeling. The entire process was like taking a trip to the moon for us.

Thankfully Richard and his program helped give us a path to follow. Upon applying the principles in his program we were able to communicate with the contractors and suppliers at a level that made us feel capable and competent.

As a result we saved nearly $35,000 in cost savings for both labor and material.

Richard Cartright has used his vast experience as a construction manager working in such exotic locales as Chicago's Field Museum to produce an essential process about the successful management of home remodeling projects. But this isn't a simple how-to.

Richard covers everything from negotiating the bid process to obtaining building permits, from planning the project to completing the construction phase. And he describes the process in a style that isn't boring or mundane. He's enlightened, breezy, and informative; the absolute reverse of stodgy and technical. Cartright gives you an educated look at the construction process from the viewpoint of a guy who's done a lot more than remodel basements.

You will not only learn how to create and complete that much-desired home remodeling project, big or small, you will also capture an insight into the construction process in America. Written by one of the industry's stars.
