Requests for Information
When contractors ask you for specific information, keep track of the requests.
A Request for Information (RFI) is the form used for contractually requesting information from another party during construction. This is helpful because the RFI forms a binding request specified by the contract documents. Using this form allows you to easily track the status of each request.
Often decisions based on RFIs can have budget and/or schedule impacts; so, make sure respond to RFIs in a timely manner.
Give the Request For Information Form to your contractors so they can formally ask you questions.
Keep a Log
RFIs are often time-sensitive, and large projects can generate a lot of RFIs. The best way to ensure you respond to all RFIs is by keeping an RFI Log. Reviewing the RFI Log regularly and following up on late RFIs, with the responsible party, is a great way to make sure that the schedule doesn’t fall behind due to miscommunication or a lack of response.
Use the Request For Information Log to keep track of all your contractor’s questions.
